Skip bins for Murwillumbah homes.
Murwillumbah is the major town of the Tweed Valley, 13 kilometres south of the Queensland border in the foothills of the McPherson Range, near Wollumbin (Mount Warning). Fire destroyed much of the business district in 1907, and many of today's buildings are art deco. The old railway station is now the start of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, and Tweed Shire Council has a Murwillumbah office on Tumbulgum Road.
Houses, flats and the town centre
At the 2021 Census, 76 per cent of Murwillumbah homes were separate houses and 16 per cent were flats or apartments, with 7,616 people living in the town. House jobs usually mean a driveway skip with no approval needed. For a flat or a shop near the town centre, check with the building manager or landlord about where a bin can sit.
Flood clean-ups
Levees protect the town centre, but not every part of Murwillumbah in a major flood. The 2017 flood forced evacuations from South Murwillumbah and other low-lying areas, and the 2022 flood was the worst on record. For water-damaged plasterboard, flooring and furniture, a General Builders bin is the one to book. Keep chemicals, gas bottles and anything that may contain asbestos out.
Approval and Queensland time
No approval is needed for a skip on private land. On the road, footpath or nature strip, Tweed Shire Council requires an Approval to Place a Skip Bin in a Public Place, and a council fee applies. You arrange it. Our windows run on Queensland time, an hour behind NSW during daylight saving.
Pick your size.
3m³ skip bin
Weekend clean-ups, small bathroom or kitchen renos.
4m³ skip bin
Most popular all-rounder. Suits heavy waste like dirt and brick.
6m³ skip bin
Large house clear-outs and bigger renovation jobs.

Do I need council approval for a skip bin in Murwillumbah?
Not if the bin stays on your own property in Murwillumbah. On the road, footpath or nature strip, Tweed Shire Council requires an Approval to Place a Skip Bin in a Public Place, and a council fee applies. You'll need to arrange it, and it's your responsibility.
What size skip bin do I need in Murwillumbah?
A 3m or 4m handles a bathroom refit or garage clear-out. A whole-house renovation or a flood clean-out usually needs a 6m or 9m, and the 15m hook bin suits demolition or commercial waste. Dirt is capped at 4m and concrete at 6m.
Can I keep the skip longer than two weeks?
Yes. Standard hire is 14 days, and you can add an extra week or unlimited hire when you book. That helps when a clean-up or renovation takes longer than planned.
