Skip bins for Terranora family homes.
Terranora is part of the Tweed Heads urban area, which reaches west along Terranora Creek to take in Terranora and Bilambil Heights. Cedar-getters settled here in the 1850s, when the area was known as Taranora, a name thought to come from a Bundjalung word for a small river or estuary. Today it's a family suburb of 3,365 people, with Terranora Public School and the senior campus of Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School.
Houses with room on the driveway
At the 2021 Census, 98.6 per cent of Terranora homes were separate houses. That makes the driveway the natural spot for a skip, and a bin inside your property line needs no council approval. Make sure the truck can reach the spot and that there's firm, level ground to set the bin down.
Typical Terranora jobs
With a median age of 42 and plenty of families, the common jobs are kitchen and bathroom renovations, garage and shed clear-outs, and yard work. A 4m skip handles most single-room jobs and heavier loads like soil, and Green Waste bins take garden material only. For a whole-house renovation, step up to a 6m or 9m.
Approval for street placement
If the bin can't fit on your property, it can go on the road, footpath or nature strip only with Tweed Shire Council's Approval to Place a Skip Bin in a Public Place. Council charges a fee, and you arrange it and remain responsible. Our times are Queensland time, an hour behind NSW during daylight saving.
Pick your size.
3m³ skip bin
Weekend clean-ups, small bathroom or kitchen renos.
4m³ skip bin
Most popular all-rounder. Suits heavy waste like dirt and brick.
6m³ skip bin
Large house clear-outs and bigger renovation jobs.

Do I need council approval for a skip bin in Terranora?
Not if the bin stays on your own property in Terranora. On the road, footpath or nature strip, Tweed Shire Council requires an Approval to Place a Skip Bin in a Public Place, and a council fee applies. You'll need to arrange it, and it's your responsibility.
What size skip bin do I need in Terranora?
A 3m or 4m suits a bathroom refit or garage clear-out, and the 4m takes soil up to its weight limit. Renovating a whole house usually needs a 6m or 9m. Dirt can't go in bins 6m and over, and concrete is capped at 6m.
Can I put garden waste and household rubbish in one bin?
Not in a Green Waste bin, which is for garden material only, otherwise a contamination fee applies. A General Household bin takes mixed household rubbish. If there's a lot of garden material as well, a separate Green Waste bin keeps the two loads apart.
