Carrara sits on the Guragunbah Plain, a low, flat floodplain with the Nerang River along its eastern edge and the Pacific Motorway along most of its west. Nerang–Broadbeach Road crosses the suburb past the Carrara Sports Precinct. Within its boundaries are the Emerald Lakes canal development, built on the site of the old Surfers Paradise International Raceway, and the Palm Meadows and Emerald Lakes golf courses. At the 2021 Census just over half of Carrara's homes were separate houses and about a third were townhouses or semi-detached.

Placement on the plain

Townhouse complexes make up a big share of Carrara, and their driveways are usually common property, so check with the body corporate before booking. On a shared driveway, a 3m or 4m skip leaves more room for neighbours to get past. A house on its own block is simpler, because a bin on your driveway is on private land. The ground here is low-lying, so after heavy rain keep the skip on concrete or pavers rather than soft lawn.

What Carrara homes tend to need

Townhouse refreshes, family home renovations, yard clean-ups and move-out clear-outs are the typical skip jobs for this housing mix. Just over a quarter of homes here were rented in 2021, so end-of-tenancy clean-ups are part of the picture too. Garden prunings and lawn clippings can go in a Green Waste bin, kept free of other rubbish.

Carrara permits

If the skip stays inside your boundary, there's no council permit involved. A bin on the road, footpath or nature strip needs a City of Gold Coast permit, which the hirer applies for and is fully responsible for. BOSH doesn't organise permits.
