Ashmore is a settled family suburb between Southport and Nerang. Southport–Nerang Road runs along its northern edge past Ashmore City shopping centre, and the Nerang River bounds it to the south-west. Housing took off in the 1970s with the Ashmore Village estate, and Ashmore State School on Currumburra Road opened in 1978. At the 2021 Census about two-thirds of homes here were separate houses, and over a third had four or more bedrooms.
